Rupert Goold, Artistic Director of Headlong Theatre since 2005 has been announced as Artistic Director of the Almeida Theatre Company with effect from August.

He succeeds Michael Attenborough, who announced that he was stepping down after 11 years in 2012. Goold's first production is due to open January 2014 and he commented 'After eight wonderful years at Headlong I'm thrilled to be joining the Almeida, with our collaborations on Chimerica and American Psycho this year it feels the perfect timing'.
